Photographers hate image noise. So much in fact, that when they hear ISO 12800, they cringe. Those days are nearing an end.

With the release of the 5D MKIII, we’re venturing to guess that our usable ISO range (if we had a 5D MKIII) is somewhere around the 25600 mark. Insane. DPreview, with their hands on preview, was so kind to take example shots throughout the entire ISO range.

It looks as if the 5D MKIII has about a 4 stop increase in noise performance over the 5D MKII. Below is a 100% crop from an example shot featured on Canon’s website. It was taken at ISO 6400. Noisy? Yes. But usable? Definitely.
