What It Is

In short, its a workshop built to help improve your photography skills in tough conditions. There is no secret formula, but rather a way to use and modify light tastefully. Our goal is to push you creatively and technically. We’ll walk you through how we problem solve through tough situations using our cameras and light to make impacting photographs.

What It Isn’t

From The GP Shop Alumni

“Seeing light differently”

The GP Shop was a great lighting workshop that emphasized the importance of seeing light differently and taught about flash techniques to use to help compliment a scene when troubleshooting difficult lighting situations. We had an awesome time submerged in this two-day workshop where Trent & Stacy encouraged us think outside the box as we discussed everything from gear, lighting techniques, workflow and post-processing to what goes into making a great image and even behind the scene tips on running a business. It was a very well-rounded workshop that left us feeling very inspired!

“New approach to shooting with flash”

My two days with Stacy and Trent were incredible! I came into this workshop knowing I needed a new perspective and a new approach to shooting with flash and they over delivered on my expectations. Not only did I learn what I needed to take my photography to the next level, but I truly appreciated their transparency and their willingness to let all of us into their heads for a couple of days. I look forward to keeping Stacy and Trent and all of the workshop participants in my community and I can't wait to see how we all continue to grow and evolve with our new knowledge.

“Enhance your own style and take it to the next level”

I'd rate it 10 stars out of 5 if I could. Attending the GP Shop is one of the best things you will ever do to improve your image making process. Not only do Trent and Stacy give incredible insight into the production of their own captivating images, they give you the tools you need to enhance your own style and take it to the next level.

“Complicated concepts using visuals & real-life examples”

I attend a photography workshop nearly every year for professional development and I've rarely been to one that offered immediately actionable results as this one did. We all know that Trent and Stacy are exceptional artists and technicians. It's easy to get bogged down (& bored) with being taught the technical parts of speedlight use, but they explained complicated concepts using visuals & real-life examples which helped make their approach relatable. I came away with new-found excitement (based in knowledge) that will allow me to execute impactful imagery for my clients, even in high stress situations - I'll be forever grateful to them.

“Learn about how to photograph in hard lighting”

This was my first workshop and I was completely glad I made the trip to attend it. Even it was to learn one thing from Trent and Stacy. I thought I was coming to learn about how to photograph in hard lighting. I did... and there was soooo much more! I left knowing how to creatively add off-camera flash, take a strong image with great subject matter and interest in mind, and how to tackle a wedding day for success. They shared workflows/organization tips to make the wedding day simple along with the post processing. Before and after the workshop Trent and Stacy did an amazing job of answering any questions and concerns. I believe this was their first workshop they had hosted, but you certainly wouldn't have known that with the preparation they had ready. This workshop is highly recommended for anyone who has some knowledge of flash already and wants to take their wedding photography to the next level. It was great meeting them and to see just how important wedding days are to them and how they strive to bring a stunning finished product for each and every one of their clients. I'm truly inspired... thanks again Trent and Stacy!

“Excellent overview of lighting and how to control light”

The GP Shop was a fast-paced excellent overview of lighting and how to control light. Stacy and Trent both provided step-by-step flow and examples in different lighting situations throughout a wedding day. Their knowledge and willingness to share knowledge complimented the information they taught. I came away with several "nuggets" that I will be expanding on and putting into practice to improve my photography.

We want to share how we’ve grown with photography and flash over the past nine years. Being part of this workshop means you are part of the Gillespie Photography family. There is no question we won’t answer. Nothing held back. We genuinely love what we do and are passionate about how to help others improve their photography.

A few years back, we hit a point in our career where we found ourselves just creating the same images over and over, not being able to overcome certain obstacles. When we worked to evolve our use of flash, it became a game changer for us. No longer do we cringe with messy bridal prep rooms. Using flash tastefully, we show dramatic skies, give energy to dance photos, provide more dynamic images to our couples. Not only was this good for us creatively, but we also saw the benefits in our bookings and business. During our two day workshop, we hope to challenge you to do the same.
